BOULDER --  BOOMTOWN  and Colorado Permanente Medical Group (CPMG) announced the launch of a specific track for health tech entrepreneurs in BOOMTOWN’s startup accelerator.Boomtown_HealthTech_logoUSE

The BOOMTOWN accelerator nurtures startups through a 12-week mentoring program and provides seed-stage investment.

“At CPMG we strive to create opportunities to optimize health so people can live their best possible lives,” said Bill Wright, CPMG’s executive medical director.

“We believe that supporting new health-and-wellness-focused technologies enhances our vision for creating healthy communities and for meeting our patients where they are.”

BOOMTOWN said it has named veteran health care professional Tom Base to be managing director for the HealthTech accelerator, which will invest in 10-12 health tech startups in 2016.

“Health care systems around the globe are in the early stages of a monumental transformation to more innovative, patient-centric and value-based care models,” said Base. “Technology is one of the key drivers that will help us get there.

“We are very fortunate to partner with such a forward-thinking medial group like CPMG, which will provide resources and serve as a validation platform for new and cutting-edge ideas.”

Selected health tech startups will benefit from the new BOOMTOWN Connectivity Lab, sponsored by Comcast Labs, which will allow users to access the latest hardware and software in the rapidly growing Internet of Things (IoT) market.

The lab is expected to open in December at BOONMTOWN’s Boulder headquarters.

The fourth BOOMTOWN class is currently in session. The first three classes have a success rate of more than 90 percent of graduating companies still in operation and 78 percent generating revenue.

“We are excited to have a partner like CPMG, who has a wealth of knowledge in health and a passion for innovation,” said Toby Krout, BOOMTOWN co-founder and executive director.

“Colorado has a strong and growing health tech ecosystem, thanks to innovative organizations like Prime Health and Catalyst. Our partnership with CPMG will give Colorado a world-class health tech accelerator, which in turn will provide entrepreneurs an amazing platform to develop innovations in health care.”
