GREELEY - Startup businesses in Northern Colorado will soon have another resource to help them navigate the path to product commercialization and gain access to funding.
BizHub, a University of Northern Colorado business incubator, will hold an open house and officially launch its services on Oct. 17 near the UNC campus in Greeley.
BizHub is located at 807 17th St., Suite D. The free open house will be held from 4-6 p.m. and will include appetizers and refreshments.
Ryan Speir, BizHub director, said the new incubator program is nearly ready to go.
"We've completed our program design and are now working with some initial businesses to prove out the program concept," he said.
Speir said one thing that will set BizHub apart is its foundation on Monfort Institute research.
"We're taking that high level research and bringing it down to a practical level for high-impact business use," he said.
BizHub will offer business coaching through a program called "Growth Wheel," a mentoring program that's proven itself in other locations.
"What's great about it is it's an extensible platform that we can add to on the back end and make it unique to this region," Speir said.
The incubator will also offer help in finding capital for startups and other businesses looking to expand through a program called "Speed to Capital."
"It's not necessarily direct access, but I think we're going to be very good at helping companies get access to capital," Speir said.
The incubator will likely focus on helping companies involved with the region's biggest industries, Speir said, including oil-and-gas, construction and infrastructure, and food and agriculture.
But the BizHub will have its doors open to all businesses, he said.
"What's unique about BizHub and other UNC offerings is our commitment to the community, not just for students but for scale-up and spin-out opportunities - anyone who wants to think entrepreneurially about their business."
Support for BizHub comes from UNC, Monfort College of Business, the region's cities and counties, local chambers and economic development organizations.
Speir said the BizHub will be like no other in the region.
"We are a no-strings-attached business incubator," he said. "We do not take an equity stake in the businesses we serve, and there's no licensing agreements.
"This is just business incubation for the benefit of Northern Colorado."
Speir said now is the time to contact BizHub to be one of its first occupants.
"We do have space available, and we're looking for tenants," he said.
