Colorado retains No. 4 position on 2014 Milken Institute State Technology and Science Index

LOS ANGELES - Colorado placed No. 4 on the Milken Institute's Top 10 list of states that convert their science and tech capabilities into economic vitality.

Colorado held onto the same position as last year on the just released Milken Institute's State Technology and Science Index 2014.

The report noted that, while Colorado retained its No. 4 position, its overall score on the test dropped for the third consecutive time.

The Index is conducted every two years.

Massachusetts continued its dominance on the Index, taking the No. 1 position. Massachusetts has been rated No. 1 on every Index edition since 2004.

The states are rated on R&D inputs, risk capital and entrepreneurial infrastructure, human capital investment, technology and science workforce, and technology concentration and dynamism.

This year's Top 10 were:

• Massachusetts


• Maryland


• California


• Colorado


• Utah


• Washington


• Virginia


• New Hampshire


• Connecticut


• Delaware

 

"This index shows that the science and tech sectors continue to pace the overall economy, as well as the importance of innovation in state economies," said Kevin Klowden, one of the report's authors.

"States that are traditionally strong in science and technology are building on that strength."
