Wednesday April 2, 2014 0 commentsFORT COLLINS - Judges have been announced for the $250,000 Colorado State University Blue Ocean Enterprises Challenge on May 24.
The judges will evaluate two tracks of 16 companies each. A Collegiate Track of companies founded by students from colleges across Colorado will compete May 2, with a cash prize of $20,000.
The winner will get a chance to compete again on May 24, when the judges will also evaluate 16 established startups from across the nation in an Enterprise Track where a $250,000 top prize is at stake.
Some of the judges for the two events include:
- Alex Welch, founder of Photobucket and Lasso
- Bill Reichart, founder and managing partner of Garage Ventures
- Tom Cripps, Velco board of directors member
- Catharine Merigold, founder and managing partner of Vista Ventures
- Brian Thomas, OtterBox CEO
- Greg Osberg, former president and publisher of Newsweek
"The caliber of judges who are participating in the Blue Ocean Enterprises Challenge is phenomenal," said Charisse Bowen, director of the Institute for Entrepreneurship at CSU's College of Business and co-director of the Challenge.
"I am really looking forward to exposing these power players from San Francisco and New York to what we are doing here in Colorado. This inaugural event promises to be nothing short of game-changing for the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Northern Colorado."
The Blue Ocean Enterprises Challenge and Venture Fest will also include numerous events in addition to the competition that are open to the public, including an expo hall of innovative ideas, a partner showcase event featuring an EMyth branding workshop, a youth entrepreneur showcase and a closing night bash.
The event will be preceded by the first-ever Fort Collins Startup Week that begins May 20.
