WalletHub: Colorado ranks No. 6 on most innovative states list in 2018

COLORADO -- The Centennial State placed No. 6 on the 2018 WalletHub list of Most Innovative States.
WalletHub said it ranked all 50 states and the District of Columbia on 22 key metrics, including numbers of STEM professionals and R&D spending per capita.
Colorado had high rankings in several categories, including share of technology companies (4th), share of STEM professionals (6th), projected STEM job demand by 2020 (6th), venture capital funding per capita (7th), share of science and engineering grads age 25 and over (9th) and R&D spending per capita (18th).
The state placed No. 1 in eighth grade math and science performance, an encouraging stat for Colorado’s education system.
According to WalletHub, the top 10 most innovative states in 2018 are:
- 1 – Massachusetts
- 2 – Maryland
- 3 – Washington
- 4 – D.C.
- 5 – California
- 6 – Colorado
- 7 – Virginia
- 8 – Utah
- 9 – Delaware
- 10 – Oregon
The bottom 10 least innovative states on the list are:
- 42 – Oklahoma
- 43 – Nebraska
- 44 – Hawaii
- 45 – Kentucky
- 46 – Iowa
- 47 – Tennessee
- 48 – Arkansas
- 49 – West Virginia
- 50 – Louisiana
- 51 – Mississippi
