WalletHub: Colorado ranks No. 6 on most innovative states list in 2018

COLORADO -- The Centennial State placed No. 6 on the 2018 WalletHub list of Most Innovative States.

WalletHub said it ranked all 50 states and the District of Columbia on 22 key metrics, including numbers of STEM professionals and R&D spending per capita.

Colorado had high rankings in several categories, including share of technology companies (4^th), share of STEM professionals (6^th), projected STEM job demand by 2020 (6^th), venture capital funding per capita (7^th), share of science and engineering grads age 25 and over (9^th) and R&D spending per capita (18^th).

The state placed No. 1 in eighth grade math and science performance, an encouraging stat for Colorado’s education system.

According to WalletHub, the top 10 most innovative states in 2018 are:

• 1 – Massachusetts
• 2 – Maryland
• 3 – Washington
• 4 – D.C.
• 5 – California
• 6 – Colorado
• 7 – Virginia
• 8 – Utah
• 9 – Delaware
• 10 – Oregon

The bottom 10 least innovative states on the list are:

• 42 – Oklahoma
• 43 – Nebraska
• 44 – Hawaii
• 45 – Kentucky
• 46 – Iowa
• 47 – Tennessee
• 48 – Arkansas
• 49 – West Virginia
• 50 – Louisiana
• 51 – Mississippi
