WalletHub: Colorado ranks No. 5 in nation for best performing economy

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Colorado has been ranked as having the fifth-best state economy in the nation by Washington, D.C.-based WalletHub.WalletHub_logoUSE

The WalletHub study ranked all 50 states and the District of Columbia on economic activity, economic health and innovation potential.

Colorado’s ranking benefited from having the lowest unemployment rate, the fourth-highest business startup activity, the fifth-largest GDP growth and the sixth-highest percentage of jobs in high-tech industries.

According to the report, the top 10 states with the best performing economies are:

  • 1—Utah
  • 2—Washington
  • 3—California
  • 4—Massachusetts
  • 5—Colorado
  • 6—Delaware
  • 7-- District of Columbia
  • 8—New York
  • 9—Texas
  • 10—Oregon

The five states with the worst-performing states, according to the report, were:

  • 47—New Mexico
  • 48—Maine
  • 49—West Virginia
  • 50—Arkansas
  • 51--Mississippi
