BOULDER -- Sphero, a leader in connected play robotics, today announced the launch of its new Sphero SPRK Edition – a robot designed to inspire tomorrow’s inventors and innovators.Sphereo_insideFIXED

The new, clear-shelled Sphero is powered by an all-new app experience that allows users to execute programs with visual blocks representing Sphero’s own C-Based coding language called OVAL.

Sphero said its SPRK Edition and the SPRK app are designed to inspire a love of robotics, coding and STEM principles while teaching the power of cause, effect and conditions in programming.

The clear shell allows users to see the immediate connection between the program they created and the guts of their Sphero work, the company said.

“There’s no rule that says learning shouldn’t be fun, or that playing can’t be valuable," said Rob Maigret, Sphero’s CCO. “Driven by SPRK’s success and statistics citing a growing need for coding skills, we knew it was time to take the next step with this robot.

“SPRK is for the makers, hackers and dreamers of the future, for those who would rather learn by doing, not by watching.”

SPRK Edition Sphero is available at www.sphero.com and at select retailers for $129. The new SPRK app is free and available for download in the APP Store for IOS devices and Play Store for Android phones and tablets.
