Rachio becomes first smart home company to earn ‘B Corp’ sustainability rating
Friday April 21, 2017
DENVER -- Rachio, maker of the highest rated smart sprinkler controller on the market, announced it has earned B Corporation certification.
In addition, the company said it has helped homeowners save three billion gallons of water over the last three years. The savings is equal to the annual drinking water for more than 16 million people, and could serve the population of Los Angeles and Orange County combined, Rachio said.
Rachio said it achieved B Corporation certification through its commitment to sustainability and smart water usage. B Corporation awards its certification to companies that use the power of business to solve social and environmental problems and meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, public transparency and legal accountability.
Today, there is a growing community of more than 2,000 certified corporations from 50 countries and more than 130 industries working together to redefine success in business and follow through on a commitment to uphold these standards.
To date, Rachio said it has helped customers save three billion gallons of water using Rachio's EPA WaterSense certified irrigation technology to optimize watering schedules.
By analyzing past and future weather reports, as well as a yard’s soil type and lawn conditions, Rachio said it can save homeowners up to 50 percent off their outdoor water bill. Rachio’s Weather Intelligence™ taps into a home’s Wi-Fi network and connects to a network of thousands of weather stations to collect this data.
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the average American family uses more than 300 gallons of water per day at home, and Rachio said its Smart Sprinkler Controller reduces water waste by ensuring each yard gets the precise amount of water it needs.
“Rachio’s ground-breaking controller and app empower people to take control of their water use, making it easy to balance having a beautiful yard with minimizing their environmental impact,” said Chris Klein, Rachio CEO.
“We’re incredibly proud that our technology has saved more than three billion gallons of water, and we’re honored to be recognized as a B Corporation at the same time. We remain dedicated to making it seamless for people to make smart choices about water usage in their homes.”
“B Corp is committed to working with companies helping the global community, and here at the Colorado B Corp office, we couldn’t be more thrilled to add another local company to our roster,” said Kim Coupounas, director of B Lab’s Colorado office.
“Rachio offers its customers a smart and intuitive way to take control of their water usage, and we're pleased to recognize their commitment to addressing the growing need for water conservation.”
Rachio said it integrates with major smart home platforms and is compatible with nearly every home sprinkler system. Setup is straightforward and gives homeowners complete control of their yard irrigation, with up to 16 zones per controller.
