BOULDER -- Dental care products startup Frau Fowler topped 25 innovative natural and organic products companies competing for prizes valued at $60,000 before a panel of judges and a live audience of nearly 600 attendees at the 12th Annual Naturally Boulder Pitch Slam & Autumn Awards.
The Boulder-based natural tooth powder and dental care products startup took home top honors, followed by runners-up SaltiSweet Ice Cream Factory with its organic ice cream pretzel pops, and Evo Hemp for its role in advancing healthful hemp foods nationwide.

In addition to the day-long Pitch Slam competition, held Oct. 27 at the University of Colorado, the evening ceremonies featured Naturally Boulder's Annual Autumn Awards honoring Boulder-based natural products grocer Lucky's Market as the Breakout Brand of the Year. Lucky's co-founders and husband and wife team Bo and Trish Sharon accepted the award.
Author and former Rudi's Organic Bakery CEO Jane Miller also was recognized for her contributions to the natural and organic products business community with the 2016 Industry Leader/Community Champ Award.

The Naturally Boulder Pitch Slam has helped launch several national brands, including Evol Foods, Goddess Garden and Bamboobies. The event also has provided a platform for hundreds of emerging entrepreneurs in the Boulder-Denver region.
The Pitch Slam prize package included $5,000 cash, a suite of business services, and a free exhibit booth at New Hope Network’s Natural Products Expo West, the world’s largest natural and organic products trade exposition, with more than 75,000 visitors from over 70 countries.
"Everyone was a winner at this year's Pitch Slam, with so many young and emerging companies able to garner significant exposure and positive feedback among a respected group of peers and leaders," said Carlotta Mast, Naturally Boulder board president and executive director of content & insights at New Hope Network.
"We appreciate all the entrepreneurs who submitted video applications, and who were brave enough to take the stage before an impressive crowd."
This year’s panel of judges included fellow Naturally Boulder members and industry veterans Victoria Hartman, SVP of Alliance Sales and Marketing; Steven Hoffman, founder of Compass Natural; Doug Radi, CEO of Good Karma Foods; and Sonja Tuitele, Strategic Communications consultant.
Naturally Boulder board members Steve Wangler, VP of sales and analytics for probiotic beverage maker Kevita, and Alex Hanifin of Alpine Start Foods, a new Boulder startup, co-chaired the event. Wangler and Hanifin also served as co-MCs along with Carlotta Mast for the event.
