“Alex brings a wealth of knowledge to the State of Colorado as a veteran technology expert in both the public and private sectors,” said Theresa Szczurek, OIT chief information officer and executive director.

“Alex will pursue our passionate purpose of Customer Delight while working to fulfill OIT’s mission of enhancing the lives of all Coloradans.”

In his new role for the State of Colorado, Pettit will keep all systems operating, information flowing, applications advancing, and technology transforming. He will guide further enhancements of a world-class IT infrastructure, the use of cloud services, and the applications of blockchain, Artificial Intelligence, and other modern technologies.

“I am very excited to be a part of the OIT team,” said Pettit. “As Teddy Roosevelt said, ‘By far the best prize in life is to work hard at work worth doing.’ This is what OIT does every hour of every day.”

Pettit was appointed first chief information officer in the State of Oklahoma.  Previously, he led the City of Denton’s (Texas) technology efforts for more than 10 years as their first ever chief technology officer.

During his career, Pettit also held private sector positions at Smartmatic, TEKsystems, Brown University, Marsh, Ernst & Young, and AT&T. Pettit earned a doctorate in Computer and Information Sciences from the University of North Texas with a focus on Enterprise Architecture, and a Master of Business Administration in Management Information Systems (MIS) from Loyola University Chicago.
