DENVER - The nation's largest privately developed and subscribed Community Solar Garden to be built by SunShare In Colorado Springs is already sold-out, SunShare announced.

Construction on the 10,000-plus solar panel installation is set to begin this fall and will be big enough to power more than 500 average homes.

Colorado Springs Utilities awarded the Community Solar contract to SunShare in November 2013 under a public bidding process. The project is the largest privately developed, subscription Community Solar project in the U.S., SunShare said.

SunShare has already started putting new customers on a wait list for its next Colorado Springs project, expected to begin construction early next year.

"We are excited about the broad public support we have seen for our Community Solar programs," said David Amster-Olszewski, SunShare's founder and president.

"The leadership that these institutions and our hundreds of participating individuals and families are taking will drive adoption of solar energy in coming years."

SunShare said it has more than 13 megawatts of Community Solar Gardens under development across the Front Range and is expanding to several new states later this year.
