COLORADO -- Colorado placed No. 5 on WalletHub’s annual list of Most Innovative States, with the No. 1 ranking for eighth grade math and science performance.Colorado_logoUSE

The rankings were based on 24 metrics that focused on “Human Capital” and “Innovation Environment.” Within those parameters, Colorado’s scores included:

  • 5th – Share of STEM Professionals
  • 6th – Projected STEM-Job Demand by 2020
  • 1st – Eighth-Grade Math & Science Performance
  • 9th – Share of Science & Engineering Graduates Aged 25+
  • 5th – Share of Technology Companies
  • 18th – R&D Spending Per Capita
  • 7th – Venture-Capital Funding Per Capita

The Top 10 most innovative states according to the report are:

  1. Massachusetts
  2. Washington
  3. District of Columbia
  4. Maryland
  5. Colorado
  6. California
  7. Virginia
  8. Utah
  9. Delaware

      10.Oregon

The bottom five states on the list are:

  1. Tennessee
  2. Iowa
  3. West Virginia
  4. Louisiana
  5. Mississippi
