Study: Colorado ranks No. 6 on list of happiest states

COLORADO -- Colorado residents are among the happiest people in America, according to a new study.Colorado_logoUSE

The Gallup-Sharecare Well-Being Index ranked Colorado No. 6 on its list of the happiest states in the nation.

The study was based on interviews of 160,000 adults across the nation and looked at five categories: sense of purpose, social relationships, financial security, relationship to their community and physical health.

Fifty-one percent of Colorado residents interviewed declared themselves to be in near perfect physical health (12th highest) and 75 percent said they liked what they did every day (16th highest).

Colorado and Hawaii have ranked in the top 10 of happiest states since the study began in 2008.

The top 10 happiest states according to the study are:

  • 1 – South Dakota
  • 2 – Vermont
  • 3 – Hawaii
  • 4 – Minnesota
  • 5 – North Dakota
  • 6 – Colorado
  • 7 – New Hampshire
  • 8 – Idaho
  • 9 – Utah
  • 10 – Montana

The bottom 10 states predominantly were in the South:

  • 41 – Rhode Island
  • 42 – Indiana
  • 43 – Nevada
  • 44 – Ohio
  • 45 – Kentucky
  • 46 – Oklahoma
  • 47 – Mississippi
  • 48 – Arkansas
  • 49 – Louisiana
  • 50 – West Virginia
