BOULDER -- The Rocky Mountain STEAM Fest will be held this weekend, Sept. 5-6, at the Boulder County Fairgrounds in Longmont.
The event is being organized by MakerBoulder.com, which also presented the Boulder Maker Faire last year.
“From the minute you walk in the door you’ll know this is different,” said Mary Anne Zacek, co-founder of MakerBoulder.com and one of STEAM Fest’s presenting sponsors.
“You won’t stroll by these booths, you’ll roll your sleeves up and sit down and play, or tinker or hack.”
The family-friendly event will feature more than 100 exhibits with hands-on activities in science, technology, entrepreneurship, art and making (STEAM).
Zacek said every booth will offer some hands-on activity – a problem to solve, an obstacle course to complete, something to draw or a rocket to launch -- as examples.
Speakers at STEAM Fest will include Dr. Temple Grandin, a CSU professor known for her groundbreaking work in animal treatment in the food industry, and Cathy Olkin, a planetary scientist who took part in the recent Horizons Mission flyby of Pluto.
The event’s full schedule can be viewed at http://www.MakerBoulder.com/STEAM/Schedule.
Tickets range from $5 to $13 and can be purchased at the gate or in advance at http://www.MakerBoulder.com/Tickets/.
