FORT COLLINS -- InnovatioNews won three awards at the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) awards event held last week in Denver, including a first-place award for science writing.
IN also won a second-place award for a blog on selfies and a third-place award for general website excellence.
The annual awards competition attracts hundreds of entries from dozens of news media across the state and the Rocky Mountain region.
The first-place award was for Editor Steve Porter’s story on Boulder-based QI Path, which aims to improve the safety of clinical trials for patients.
“Fascinating story about making clinical trials safer,” the judge wrote. “An interesting story, well sourced.”
Porter’s humorous editorial blog, “Looking for a Better Selfie? Stick It,” won second place in the blog competition.
InnovatioNews also picked up a third-place award for General Website Excellence.
“The site is clean and easy to navigate, and the logos on each story make it simple for viewers to find news about specific companies,” the judge wrote. “Appreciate the inclusion of different content types, such as the Q&As, calendar and videos.”
“I’m proud of all three awards, but I’m especially proud of the General Website Excellence award,” said Editor Porter. “At InnovatioNews, we try very hard to present our readers with compelling, topical and useful information, and doing it with an award-winning website is something that makes us very happy.”
“My team is the best in Colorado, and we’ve dedicated ourselves to covering this niche that is becoming more and more important to our state’s economy,” said Lee Porter, InnovatioNews founder and publisher.
“These awards say we’re doing that each and every day.”
