Have you lost the mojo?

Has your business turned into a slog?

It’s real easy for that to happen, you know. You’re trying to make progress on a bazillion details, and there’s a new challenge every three minutes.Carl_Dierschow_USE_1

At the end of the day, it feels like you’re just spinning your wheels. Then you get to come back tomorrow and do it again.

And again.

That may be tough for you, but what I’m focusing on today is what the experience is for your employees. If you’re doing something important in your organization, then you’d like your folks to be excited and engaged by that mission.

Mission? Yeah, those great sounding words that are up on the wall that you haven’t talked about for a year now. It’s the slide in your new hire orientation that you scoot through so you can tell them about all the rules they’re going to have to obey.

I’ll tell you now: the energy, the passion, the sense of purpose all stem from that sense of mission.

Your mojo.

But when you’re feeling personally consumed by issues and challenges, your own sense of mojo is back-burnered. Which means that your people aren’t feeling the injection of excitement and passion either.

Your role as a leader is to help them find that again. There’s a bit of “fake it ‘til you make it,” but over time it will become second nature to you.

And then to convey that to your people.

Over time, it’ll become self-sustaining, and THEY will start building YOUR mojo when you’re down.

Which is what a business on a mission does. Everybody’s helping everybody to remember the reason why work matters.

If you’re interested to explore this idea more, I’ve got a couple of upcoming workshops this month at the Fort Collins Chamber and Larimer County Workforce Center that you might want to check out.
